In 1988 David Wing
founded Retail Advisors™ to help apparel and gift retailers, giving them the
support for continued growth and success.

simple - I wanted to give the small and independent retailer the same chance
and support that larger retailers have. After spending most of my retail
career being the "fix it" person in corporate retailing, I
realized how much more I could do by supplying that same effort and hard
work to smaller independent retailers."
Mr. Wing is a small
business columnist and author of more than seventy-five published articles
and the five part series - The Retailer’s Guide Booklets, and writes the
weekly column - Elements of Success©. Additionally, he publishes monthly -
Business Therapist™, read by retailers across the country. Considered a
small business retail specialist, and respected within the retail and
business community, Mr. Wing is actively used as a resource for newspaper
and magazine writers. He is also a contributor to several Small Business Q
& A columns.
Working with local and
state business development projects play a critical role in the work Mr.
Wing, and Retail Advisors™ provides for their clients. From 1993 through the
end of fiscal year 1996, Retail Advisors™ was contracted by the GateWay
Community College Small Business Development Center. Providing small
business assistance through the special SBA program, Mr. Wing worked with
micro enterprise’s, and economically disadvantaged businesses throughout
Maricopa County, Arizona. During this time he had the role of Primary Retail
Business Counselor, dealing with over 300 small businesses per year. Center
projects included the development and opening of new businesses – both
service and retail – the development of a Retail Incubator Cart program,
and the development and implementation of specialized small business
training programs. Mr. Wing also actively works as a small business advocate
by sitting on committees and advisory boards.
Prior to establishing
Retail Advisors™, Mr. Wing worked with some of the countries largest retail
organizations; including Broadway Southwest, Van Heusen Corporation (outlet
division), Dayton Hudson Corporation, Edison Brothers, and Dillard
Department Stores. Before focusing on the needs of small business owners,
Mr. Wing worked with Van Heusen Corporation managing day-to-day operations,
management training programs, store personnel, and the opening of new stores
throughout the west. Special projects included the development of focused
merchandise selection for the western stores to meet customers needs and the
development and implementation of a new company wide training programs.
Mr.
Wing believes in the "roll-up-your-sleeves" way of making things
happen for the clients of Retail Advisors™. Working in the trenches with each
client helps realize their goals of sales increase of 20 percent or more.
Effective use of store space for optimizing sales, customer service and
store management skills are always stressed. Decreases in operational
expenses, and higher repeat customer business are requirements.
