Quickbooks
2002 : The Official Guide
An amazing resource Reader Review: This book presents
the most down-to-earth, realistic, explanations for using Quickbooks
features I've ever seen. The writing style is wonderful, it is clear,
interesting, and a pleasure to read. You learn much more than how to get
bookkeeping tasks accomplished in this book - you learn some accounting, and
most important, you learn how to make things happen in Quickbooks that
aren't built in to the features. Mrs Ivens calls them
"workarounds" but they should be called "ingenious
solutions". Everybody who uses Quickbooks or who is thinking about
using Quickbooks some day should buy this book.

The
Accounting Game : Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand
Great Refresher!, Reader Review: I've taken accounting
classes when I went to school to get my Associate's degree, it's been a few
years since I've studied it. I really needed something to refresh my brain
and prepare me for learning in the field of accounting, since I will be
returning to college this fall for my bachelors in accounting. This book
really did just that, and it was in such an easy format! I finished it in
two days, and I feel that I learned more than I think I did in school 4
years ago! It helped me understand inventory and depreciation better than I
ever had. I highly recommend this book for anyone planning to open a small
business, or if you're planning on returning to school in this field, it's a
wonderful refresher course!
Excel
2000 Formulas
This is THE ONE !! Reader Review: I am usually the guy
who amazes his co-workers with Excel capabilities, and have used Excel from
it's inception. The formulas books were always a good help... but THIS book
simply amazed me! I didn't get past SECTION 1 without learning half a dozen
things I could use immediately! I'm already "scaring" my managers
with the things I've learned. Talk about impact! Well written, easy to
understand examples, and thorough. If you want to stay on a simple level
with Excel (or just a general overview) go for a less expensive book. BUT IF
YOU WANT DETAIL (plenty of it here!) and "comprehensive
comprehension" - this is what you're looking for.
Financial
Statements : A Step-By-Step Guide to Understanding and Creating Financial
Reports
Excellent for a novice, Reader Review: This is the
first book that demonstrates an understanding of the necessity of abandoning
jargon to get to knowledge, for a layman. At the end of this book, I was
able to relate back to the Jargons, and I agree with the author, nothing is
simpler than reading statements! Excellent read for novices!

QuickBooks
Pro
Intuit Software
Reviewer: I have a Bookkeeping and Accounting Service business and
frankly, initially I was a "hard sell" converting to Quickbooks. That
was 6 years ago.. now I am a Certified QBooks Pro Advisor. Each updated version
makes it more comprehensive and user-friendly. Intuit /Quickbooks has 85% of the
small business market, so if you fit this parameter, it would be prudent to look
into this software. I would suggest, however, perhaps to have a bookkeeper or
accountant look over or set up your initial start up ----that way you'll be
saving a lot of $$$ when tax time comes around. Quicken
is good (also by Intuit) BUT it is really for personal finances, not business.
Keeping
the Books : Basic Record keeping and Accounting
for the Successful Small Business (Keeping the Books, 5th Ed)
Excellent beginners tool for learning bookkeeping, Reader Review:
I purchased two copies of this book. One for a student taking her first class
in bookkeeping and the other to give to my boss, who is excellent in what he
knows how to do. Give orders and knows very little about accounting. He is the
president of the company. To be honest he is a good boss and we all like him,
yet I find it so frustrating when trying to explain what the financials are
all about. He gets lost and puts them in a drawer. I wanted to see for myself
what was in this book so I read it. It was very easy to read and understand.
This is an excellent book to give to anyone who is starting a new business and
has little to no knowledge of accounting and needs a fast primer to get
started. Also, for the boss who wants to learn and is afraid to ask. And for a
student. Good value for what you get.

Tax Deductions for Businesses & Self-Employed Individuals (422 Tax
Deductions for Businesses & Self-Employed Individuals, 3rd Ed)
Superb Tax Advice for Small Business Owners!, Reader Review:
I've bought other books on taxes for the self-employed, but this is the only
one that tells you where to put the specific deduction on Schedule C. This was
invaluable for me! If you are looking for lots of deductions with specific
advice when filling out your Schedule C, this is the book!
